Why You'll Love This Salad Dressing

This balsamic vinaigrette is sugar free, but you'd never know it. It has that perfect balance of sweet and tangy that makes your taste buds sing!

It mixes up in minutes with ingredients you probably already have on hand. And you can store it in the fridge until you need to drizzle some on your salad. Its a delicious way to start your meal!

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed: EVOO, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, sugar free honey, shallot, garlic, and salt and pepper.
Reminder to scroll to the recipe card for detailed quantities.

How to Make Sugar Free Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing

No big prep required, just mince the shallot and garlic and then measure all the ingredients into a small blender. Start with one tablespoon of the sugar free honey, you will be able to adjust later as needed.

Adding dressing ingredients to a small blender.

Blend at medium to high speed until well mixed. Usually about 60 seconds is plenty for my blender. (It's really an extension of my immersion blender)

    Blending the dressing.

The dressing should look smooth and pourable. Give it a quick taste and adjust as needed. You might need to add a little more honey, depending upon how sweet your balsamic vinegar is.

    Serving Suggestions

Drizzling sugar free balsamic dressing on a salad of greens.

I use balsamic vinaigrette dressing on any kind of salad, but especially anything with a sweet element, like a beet salad or any salad with a little fruit.

But don't be afraid to think outside the bowl! Try it as a marinade for beef or chicken to provide a different flavor profile to those meats.

    Storage

Store refrigerated in a glass jar with an airtight lid. I use small Mason jars or even an old jelly jar.

The dressing may separate a little when stored. If so, just warm the jar a little between your hands and then give it a good shake to re-incorporate the ingredients before adding to your salad.

    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup olive oil extra virgin
    • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
    • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1-2 Tablespoons sugar free honey*
    • 1 tablespoon shallot minced about ½ a medium shallot
    • 1 clove garlic minced
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon pepper

    Instructions

    • Add all ingredients (start with 1 Tablespoon honey) to a small blender or food processor.
¾ cup olive oil, ¼ cup balsamic vinegar, 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1-2 Tablespoons sugar free honey*, 1 tablespoon shallot minced, 1 clove garlic minced, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper
    • Blend ingredients at medium to high speed until well incorporated.
    • Taste the dressing and adjust with a little more honey if needed.
    • Store in the refrigerator in a covered jar.

    Notes

    • I get sugar free honey on Amazon, either monkfruit or allulose based, both are very good.
    • Balsamic vinegar can vary widely in terms of sweetness. You might need to adjust with more honey due to this.

Just a thought— balsamic vinegar itself is actually very sweet, as it is made from grape must (basically super concentrated grape juice e that has aged). It is not fermented as other vinegars and so the sugar in the grape must has not been eaten during a fermentation process. If you are hoping to truly avoid sugar, please note that unless you substitute the balsamic, there is far more underlying sugar to be aware of (albeit in a fruit juice source)
      Cheers!

Yes, true, but I still use balsamic vinegar because I do feel that the vinegar does mitigate the effects of the sugar. So I was just trying to avoid any additional added sugars in the vinaigrette. But I do appreciate your thoughts!
