Why You'll Love this Recipe
- Simplicity: The only prep needed is to wash and cut the broccoli into florets, then place them in the foil packets.
- The taste: That little bit of smokey essense you can only get from a BBQ grill is the perfect enhancement for broccoli.
- Healthy: Low carb and low calorie, broccoli is a true superfood, full of vitamins and nutrients to power your body.
- Clean up: Just crumple up the foil and toss it when you're done. That's the easiest clean up ever!
Ingredients Needed
- Broccoli, of course! This recipe uses one crown of broccoli. If you want to make more, just make multiple foil packets and cook them all at once on the grill.
- Olive oil - the cooking kind, not extra-virgin.
- Butter - because I just can't resist that additional layer of deliciousness.
- Salt and pepper - to taste, just enough to bring out the flavors.
How to Grill Broccoli in Foil Packets
Take one broccoli crown, wash it, and cut off the florets. Place the florets in the middle of a piece of foil. The foil should be about 14 to 16 inches long.
Drizzle a little olive oil over the broccoli, then toss lightly to help distribute the oil.
Dot the broccoli with some butter, and season with salt and pepper.
Now tear off another piece of foil, layer it on top, and then fold up the edges to make an enclosed packet. Fold the edges a couple times to form a good seal.
Place the packet on the hot grill. Typically my grill is at a medium to medium-high heat, depending upon whatever else I am cooking. Close the lid and let the packet cook for 5 minutes, then flip it and cook for 5 more minutes.
Remove the packet and tear it open when you are ready to serve. When you make grilled broccoli in foil, you get delicious tender broccoli with slightly charred edges and a bit of smoky flavor - so good!
Serving Suggestions
Anything you're making on the grill will taste great with this broccoli grilled in foil! Grilled chicken legs anyone? Or maybe some beef kabobs - yum!
Substitutions and Variations
By all means, use this cooking method as a starting point and modify with different oils and spices to make your own flavor profile. A shake of red pepper flakes or hot sauce would provide a little kick, or maybe some oregano for a Mediterranean twist.
Everything But the Bagel seasoning would be fun too. It has such a great combination of flavors!
